Starting a new year may mean starting a new season of life for some of you and that can be scary. Maybe the season of life you are in right now has been a valley, but maybe you have been on a mountaintop. Are you getting ready to graduate from High School or college? Did you recently apply for the job you have always wanted? Or did you recently find out about an unexpected medical diagnosis? Did you move away from home and everything you have always known? Fill in the question for you. We all have seasons of life that we are walking through. Those seasons look different for everyone. Here is the question though, are you being obedient in those seasons?
Obedient: Complying or willing to comply with orders or requests; submissive to another's will.
Obedience: Compliance with an order, request, or law. Submission to another's authority.
Biblical Definition of Obedience: An act of surrender; "not my will Lord but your will and align our actions with that will."
True Obedience is imitating God in holiness, humility, and love.
Here are some definitions of what obedience is and what obedience can look like, but what does the word of God say about obedience?
"As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." -1 Peter 1:14-16
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." - John 13:34
"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." -Philippians 2:5-8
What do you need to be obedient to?
Maybe it is sharing the love of Jesus to family, friends, neighbors, classmates, co-workers knowing they might reject the love of Jesus, but if God placed a call on you heart- BE OBEDIENT! You never know whose life you can change.
If you take anything away from this devotional, just remember that your obedience or lack of can impact others.
I mean, who are we to say no to God when he is asking each and every one of us to be an instrument in someone else's walk with the Lord?
Be obedient even when you can't see it.
